In Mexico you shouldn't use a fork to eat tacos, you simply just use your hands. |
In Germany it can be rude if you use a knife to cut potatoes instead of smashing them with a fork. |

If you think about the manners you practice everyday, like saying thank you, your welcome, and holding the door for people, those are basic manners that Americans are used to.
If you ever travel to another country you should be aware of the manners they have just in case you end up in a stick situation. People can get offended if they feel they have been disrespected. This would not be a fun argument to get into especially if you do not understand the same language.
As children develop manners it is often hard for them to break the bad habits they have. That is why it is so important to TEACH students about manners daily. Since they are in school, they have the opportunity to practice those manners and create good habits for their future. It is a great learning experience for students to start practicing good manners as early on in their school year as they can. This will also create a better atmosphere in the classroom as they learn how to work together and use good manners!
Hi Rebekah, I agree that practicing good manners at school can be a great learning experience. And it can also be a very enriching experience in a cross-cultural classroom where students have the opportunity to share their culture and feel they are respected and valued. I really liked your post.

In an multicultural environment the class teacher must be aware of the different manners that their students have to avoid misunderstandings.
