“May we ever choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong.” Thomas S. Monson, “Choices”, April 2016 General Conference

“In contrast, Satan is anxious to confuse our thinking or to lead us astray on important matters like the operations of the priesthood of God.” Dallin H. Oaks, “The Melchizedek Priesthood and Keys”, April 2020 General Conference

“If we persevere, then somewhere in eternity our refinement will be finished and complete.” Elder Holland, “Be Ye Therefore Perfect-Eventually”, October 2017 General Conference

"It can be discouraging at times to know what it means to be a son of God and yet come up short. The adversary likes to take advantage of these feelings. Satan would rather that you define yourself by your sins instead of your divine potential. Brethren, don’t listen to him." Elder Uchtdorf, "Four Titles" April 2013 General Conference

"It also contradicts the intent and purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ, which acknowledges and protects the moral agency—with all its far-reaching consequences—of each and every one of God’s children. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are united in our testimony of the restored gospel and our commitment to keeping God’s commandments. But we are diverse in our cultural, social, and political preferences." Elder Uchtdorf, "Four Titles" April 2013 General Conference

"The wise use of your freedom to make your own decisions is crucial to your spiritual growth, now and for eternity." Elder Russell M. Nelson, "Decisions for Eternity" October 2013 General Conference

"We can change our behavior. Our very desires can change. How? There is only one way. True change—permanent change—can come only through the healing, cleansing, and enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.26 He loves you—each of you!27 He allows you to access His power as you keep His commandments, eagerly, earnestly, and exactly. It is that simple and certain. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of change!" Elder Russell M. Nelson, "Decisions For Eternity" October 2013 General Conference

"After Heavenly Father presented His plan, Lucifer stepped forward, saying, “Send me, … and I will redeem all mankind, that [not even] one soul shall … be lost … ; wherefore give me thine honor.”5 This plan was rejected by our Father, for it would have denied us our agency. Indeed, it was a plan of rebellion. Then Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father’s “Beloved and Chosen [Son] from the beginning,” exercised His agency to say, “Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.”6 He would be our Savior—the Savior of the world." Elder Robert D. Hales, "Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life" October 2010 General Conference

"In our mortal journey, it is helpful to remember that the opposite is also true: when we don’t keep the commandments or follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, our opportunities are reduced; our abilities to act and progress are diminished. When Cain took his brother’s life because he loved Satan more than God, his spiritual progress was stopped." Elder Robert D. Hales, "Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life" October 2010 General Conference

"Agency is the power to think, choose, and act for ourselves. It comes with endless opportunities, accompanied by responsibility and consequences. It is a blessing and a burden. Using this gift of agency wisely is critical today because never in the world’s history have God’s children been so blessed or so blatantly confronted with so many choices." Sharon G. Larsen, "Agency-A Blessing and A Burden", October 1999 General Conference

Position Statement

The power of agency that we have been given in this life is marvelous. I love the fact that our Savior wanted us to have the freedom to choose. Without that freedom, life would be so boring and repetitive. It is such a blessing that we have the agency to choose for ourselves. We get to choose each day how we want to spend our time. We also get to choose to be happy when times are hard. This allows us to grow personally and become like our Heavenly Father, and Savior Jesus Christ. I am grateful that we have our own agency so that we can be who we are supposed to be in this life.
