Capstone Practicum Application

My Application Process

As I was studying each week about the different Apostles and the prophet Russell M. Nelson, their talks were very inspiring. I was happy to be able to learn about the different ways I can find more joy in the journey. I also learned more about the Spirit and how to listen to it. The feelings that I get to know when I pray are so much stronger because of what I have been studying about with the topic of prayer. I knew about compassion and humility, but after this past semester, I needed to show more of that and I am glad that I was able to learn how to. I know that the other topics I was able to study have helped me as a person develop more attributes like my Savior, Jesus Christ.

I wanted to share an example of how I was able to apply these topics in my life. Well, each week in my REL 333 class, we were assigned a certain member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. This was very exciting for me to read and I loved learning about each of them. As I would listen to their talks, I would look for ways their talks correlated with the topics that I chose. Most of the time I could relate them to each other and I was able to feel spiritually lifted. Other times, I would look up another talk by the current Apostle I was studying and apply what that talk had with my chose topic.

Listening and reading each talk was truly inspiring, but the real question is, how did I apply it in my daily life? Well, as I would go about my day, I shared moments of learning with my husband and friends. They knew I was taking this class and allowed me to speak about my experiences and how I would pray with a sincere heart and appreciate things like family, my agency, the hope that comes through addiction, the power of the Atonement, the gift of the Holy Ghost, showing more humility and compassion, and enjoying each day of this journey called life.
