Sincere Prayer

Sincere Prayer

”Approximately three years later, in response to earnest prayer on the evening of September 21, 1823, Joseph’s bedroom filled with light until it was “lighter than at noonday.”2 A personage appeared at his bedside, called the young boy by name, and declared “he was a messenger sent from the presence of God … and that his name was Moroni.”3 He instructed Joseph about the coming forth of the Book of Mormon.” David A. Bednar, “Let this House be Built Upon my Name”, April 2020 General Conference

“You and I will have smaller parts to play in the ongoing Restoration. Yet the enemy of the Restoration will try to stop us from praying. The example of Joseph Smith's faith and his determination can strengthen us in our resolve.” Henry B. Eyring “The First Vision; A Pattern of Revelation” February 2020 Liahona

"I am calling for another worldwide fast. For all whose health may permit, let us fast, pray, and unite our faith once again. Let us prayerfully plead for relief from this global pandemic." Russell M. Nelson, “Opening the Heavens for Help”, April 2020 General Conference

“As we pray in faith, we will be a vital part in the Lord's work as He prepares the world for His Second Coming. I pray that we all may find joy in doing the work He invites each of us to perform.” Henry B. Eyring, “Hear Him”, April 2020 General Conference

“Throughout his prophetic ministry, Joseph Smith used prayers of faith to obtain continuous revelation. As we face today's challenges and those yet to come, we, too, will need to practice the same pattern." Henry B. Eyring, “Prayers of Faith”, April 2020 General Conference

“When I pray with faith, I have the Savior as my advocate with the Father and I can feel that my prayer reaches heaven. Answers come. Blessings are received. There is peace and joy even in hard times.” Henry B. Eyring, “Prayers of Faith” April 2020 General Conference

"First, prayer is a humble acknowledgment that God is our Father and that the Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Second, it is a sincere confession of sin and transgression and a request for forgiveness. Third, it is recognition that we need help beyond our own ability. Fourth, it is an opportunity to express thanksgiving and gratitude to our Creator. It is important that we frequently say: “We thank Thee …, “ “We acknowledge before Thee …, ” “We are grateful unto Thee …” Fifth, it is a privilege to ask Deity for specific blessings." Elder James E. Faust "The Lifeline of Prayer" April 2002, General Conference

"No more poignant prayer was ever uttered than that given by the Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane. He withdrew from His Apostles, knelt, and prayed, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”22 An important element of all of our prayers might well be to follow the pattern of that prayer in Gethsemane: “not my will, but thine, be done.” By this, then, we acknowledge our devotion and submission to the overriding purposes of the Lord in our lives. As He said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”23 What a glorious day it will be for each of us when we pray with confidence that “if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us.” Elder James E. Faust "The Lifeline of Prayer" April 2002 General Conference

"When should we pray? The Lord said, “Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good.” Elder Russell M. Nelson, "Sweet Power of Prayer" April 2003 General Conference

"We should pray in accord with the will of our Heavenly Father.32 He wants to test us, to strengthen us, and to help us achieve our full potential. When the Prophet Joseph Smith was held in Liberty Jail, he pled for relief. His prayers were answered with an explanation: “All these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.” Elder Russell M. Nelson, "Sweet Power of Prayer" April 2003 General Conference

Position Statement

I know that prayer is a gift that we have on this Earth to help us communicate directly with our Heavenly Father. He wants to hear us speak about our concerns, happiness, and any other emotions we might have in our day. When we pray to him with sincere intent we can rely on his love to answer our prayers and comfort us in what we need fo that very moment. I am so grateful that I can pray each day whenever I need it. I know that we can be blessed as we speak with our Heavenly Father. He loves us and wants us to talk with each day.
